Early Hours

about

Early Hours is taken from a series of compositions co-written with Liam Capper-Starr in 2012, but which were never properly recorded or released… until now. It is a song about love which captures feelings of lust and wanting; a synth-pop ballad inspired by the likes of Julee Cruise, St. Etienne and Beach House.

Cullingford revisited these songs in 2023, and with over 10 years of hindsight and experience she has now produced them in the way that they were intended to be when first written. They have now been collected together as an EP called 'The Komiza Project'- out in April 2024. She has taken a step back from the electronic dance floor fillers for which she is previously known in both her solo work and with Sink Ya Teeth, and produced a collection of songs that are warm, deeply personal and often melancholic, whilst still recognisably Cullingford with her gently sung and softly spoken voice.

The songs are inspired by some old super 8 film of Gemma’s own family from the 70’s and 80’s, which she edited together to create her debut short film Home - out later this year
